Datsun Roadster & Fairlady Early Valve Stem Seal UMBRELLA STYLE

63 - 67 early Fairlady 1500 and the early 1600 Datsun Roadster improved valve stem seal. Works with cast iron and aluminum cylinder heads.
These early cylinder heads relied on the British style rubber O-rings affixed at the top of the retainers to control oil from running down the guide. Too bad the spring is open all around its circumference, resulting in early cars being oil consumers with nasty build up on the back side of the valves.
Our seal fits over the guide on early cars snugly and provides the sealing like the late cars without having to remove the head to machine the raised inner valve spring step since this seal is narrow. These seals are included in all our early head sets and early full gasket sets for both models.
Higher lift cams: When using with early year cars 65 - 67, the intended use of this seal, the inner step in the guide area of the head is raised unlike later year cars beginning with 67 1/2 heads. Since this seal sits on top of the raised area you must take into consideration the thickness of this step when checking valve lift. There have been no reported issues with clearance with this valve seal which we have been selling for 8 years. Since late year cars do not have this step there is no problem with higher lift cams so the only consideration is with the height of the step never with the seal itself. This seal is identical in height to the later, wider based seal.
